Not sure what to do next? Art Foundation Years are a great way to explore different Artistic disciplines after college before committing to a degree course. Courses are generally 1 year full time, and free for students under the age of 19. The UAL (University of Arts London) consists of several campuses, Central Saint Martins, Camberwell, London College of Fashion, London College of Communication, Wimbledon College of Arts and Chelsea College of Art. Kingston University also offers a 1 Year Arts Foundation course that seems well suited to students interested in Fashion & Graphics. These courses are competitive but highly regarded.
You will be expected to put together a portfolio of work from your A-level (more recently this is a digital portfolio), demonstrating technical and experimental skills in drawing and other mixed media, as well as sketchbooks documenting your projects, processes and journey of ideas from start to finish. You may then be invited to an interview to discuss your portfolio and project work. It is a good idea to get familiar with current exhibitions, artists and designers so you can confidently discuss your interest in the Arts!
